Foundations of the Law of Assumption | Lesson 6 of 9

Law of Assumption vs. Law of Attraction

They are often confused. Understand the crucial difference, and why it changes everything about how you practice.

The Law of Attraction says: you are a magnet, and the universe, something outside you, delivers experiences that match your vibration. The Law of Assumption says something more direct: there is nothing outside you doing the delivering. Your consciousness is not attracting your reality. It is becoming it.

The key differences

  • Attraction: you and the desire are two, and you pull it toward you. Assumption: you and the desire are one, and you embody it.
  • Attraction: the universe decides timing and delivery. Assumption: your persistence in a state is the deciding factor.
  • Attraction: "raise your vibration" to qualify. Assumption: simply occupy the state of the wish fulfilled.
  • Attraction asks "how do I get it?" Assumption asks "who would I be if I had it?"
"It is not what you want that you attract; you attract what you believe to be true."
Neville Goddard

What this means: Wanting and believing are different inner acts, and this quote separates them cleanly. You can want something all day while believing, underneath, that it is not for you. The law responds to the belief, not the want. This is why intense wanting often produces nothing, while a quiet settled belief produces results almost casually.

This distinction is not academic; it changes your daily practice. Under attraction, you monitor the outer world for signs and worry about blocking your manifestation. Under assumption, the outer world is old news, a lagging mirror. Your only job is inner: remain faithful to the state of the wish fulfilled.
